JEDDAH: The Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) opened its fourth edition on Friday, transforming Historic Jeddah‘s Al Balad district into a vibrant hub of global cinematography under the theme “The New Home of Film.”
The festival inaugurated its new headquarters with a world premiere of “The Tale of Daye’s Family,” a groundbreaking Saudi-Egyptian co-production that symbolizes the event’s commitment to cross-cultural storytelling and collaborative filmmaking.
A Global Cinema Celebration
With an ambitious lineup that transcends geographical boundaries, the festival will showcase 122 films in 49 languages, representing filmmakers from 85 countries. This extraordinary selection underscores the event’s mission to position Saudi Arabia as a critical destination for international film culture.
Jomana Al-Rashid, Chairwoman of the Red Sea Film Foundation, emphasized the organization’s primary objective of elevating Arab filmmaking on the global stage. “This festival is more than an event—it’s a platform for cultural dialogue and creative expression,” she stated.
Star-Studded Opening and International Recognition
The festival’s opening ceremony was a testament to its growing international prestige, honoring an impressive array of global cinema talent. British actress Emily Blunt, Egyptian actress Mona Zaki, and Indian cinema icon Aamir Khan were among the celebrated guests. A special recognition award was presented to Hollywood star Vin Diesel, further highlighting the festival’s global appeal. Renowned director Spike Lee leads this year’s jury, bringing considerable artistic credibility to the event’s competitive segments.
