JEDDAH. Saudi Arabia is again reaching for the sky with its ambitious project to build the world’s tallest building, the Jeddah Tower. Kingdom Holding Company, a major Saudi company, has announced that construction will resume on a massive 1,000-meter-tall skyscraper in Jeddah. Kingdom Holding has signed a new agreement with Saudi Binladin Group to continue the construction, which had been paused earlier. The Jeddah Tower, previously called the Kingdom Tower, is part of a larger development known as Jeddah Economic City.
The tower will stand over 1,000 meters tall, surpassing Dubai’s Burj Khalifa by more than 172 meters. So far, 63 out of the planned 157 floors have been built. The construction contract is valued at SAR 7.2 billion (about $1.9 billion USD), out of which around SAR 1.1 billion has been already paid for works previously completed on the tower.
Construction is expected to take 42 months, with a target completion date in the second quarter of 2028. The remaining construction will be financed through internal funds and bank loans.
The skyscraper is just one part of a much larger development. The first phase of Jeddah Economic City covers 1.3 million square meters and includes essential infrastructure like electricity, water, sewage, and high-speed internet. This ambitious project demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to creating landmark structures and developing its urban landscape.
When completed, the tower will not only be an architectural marvel but also a symbol of the country’s economic aspirations and technological capabilities.
