RIYADH. In a compassionate move, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has announced a 60-day grace period for expat workers in Saudi Arabia seeking to rectify their Huroob (absconding) status.
Running from December 1, 2024, to January 29, 2025, the initiative offers workers (whose employment status has been reported as Huroob by the sponsor) the opportunity to seamlessly transfer their employment through the Qiwa digital platform and legalise their stay in the country. The eligible workers for this amnesty will get text message from the ministry informing to correct their status.
The campaign is more than just a bureaucratic process. It represents a holistic approach to labour relations, providing workers with free digital documentation, opportunity for employer transfer, protection of workers’ rights, and simplified administrative procedures.
