RIYADH: A comprehensive survey by the National Center for Public Opinion Polls (Rai) has uncovered strong public enthusiasm for Riyadh Metro, city‘s new transport system, with the majority of residents viewing it as a transformative urban transportation solution.
The survey, which polled 1,202 Riyadh residents (57% male and 43% female) revealed remarkable levels of optimism and support for the public transit project. Approximately 60% of respondents indicated they would use the metro for commuting to work or school, signaling a significant potential shift in urban mobility patterns.
Key findings demonstrate residents’ high expectations for the metro’s impact:
71% believe the metro will change their commuting habits
80% anticipate it will attract more investments to Riyadh
81% expect reduced traffic congestion
83% see potential positive environmental benefits
Interestingly, residents’ planned metro usage extends beyond commuting. Recreational and social activities feature prominently in their intentions:
30% plan to use it for entertainment venues
24% intend to shop while using metro trains
15% will use it to visit family and relatives
Respondents also highlighted their primary considerations for the metro system:
40% prioritized station proximity to workplaces or residences
27% emphasized transportation speed
22% focused on safety concerns
11% raised issues of preventing harassment
As an officially accredited polling center, the National Center for Public Opinion Polls aims to provide impartial, scientifically-derived insights to support government decision-making and foster societal dialogue.
